Nigeria’s Grid Can Now Carry More Power Than the Country Generates

The Transmission Company of Nigeria says its wheeling capacity has reached 8,700 megawatts, up from around 7,000, after commissioning 82 transformers between January 2024 and November 2025. Record peak generation over the same period was 5,801.84 MW — meaning the transmission network can now carry substantially more power than the country produces.
